Top 5 Super Foods To Have In Your Kitchen

Eating healthy is the best thing you can do for your body but it brings with it many mixed opinions on what you should and should not eat. Here at BodyChef, we aim to make healthy eating easy by providing you with nutritionally balanced, calorie counted meals to help you to stay on track and reach your health goals. We’ve also compiled a list of our Top 5 Super Foods which everyone should be including in their diet to increase energy levels, fight diseases and lose weight among other benefits.

1. Chia seeds

Prized by the Aztecs for their ability to provide sustained energy, these little gems are a source of protein, a range of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. They also contain more omega-3 fatty acids than salmon which is great for cognitive function and contain 11g of fibre per ounce making them excellent for a healthy digestive system. Here at BodyChef, we’ve added these tiny seeds to our Chocolate & Peanut Butter Pudding as well as the Chocolate Chia Smoothie to help you get your daily dose of goodness.

       2. Blueberries

Blueberries are full of phytonutrients that neutralize free radicals (agents that cause aging and cell damage). The antioxidants in these berries may also protect against cancer and reduce the effects of age-related conditions such as Alzheimer's disease or dementia. We’ll take these by the bucket load! Here at BodyChef, we’ve included these mighty berries in our Super Berry Breakfast Pot and Baked Oat Slice.

       3. Sweet Potatoes

We’ve all been told to swap our boiled spuds for sweet potatoes but do we really know why? Well here’s all the sweet potato health benefits that you need to know about. Firstly, they’re an excellent source of Vitamin B6 which helps reduce the chemical homocysteine which has been linked with degenerative diseases, including heart attacks. They’re also a super source of Vitamin C, D, Iron, Magnesium and Potassium. Most interestingly, Sweet potatoes contain natural sugars that are slowly released into the bloodstream, helping to ensure a balanced and regular source of energy, without the blood sugar spikes linked to fatigue and weight gain. Order our Taco Fries or King Creole, each with a hearty portion of sweet potatoes.

       4. Greek yoghurt

Loaded with calcium, potassium, protein, zinc and vitamins B6 and B12, Greek Yoghurt is the best alternative to the sugar laden ‘Low Fat’ types. This yoghurt contains probiotic cultures and is lower in lactose than regular yoghurt, but with twice the amount of protein. Try our Super Berry Breakfast Pot for a healthy portion of this superfood.

5. Cinnamon

Research has discovered that cinnamon is full of excellent health benefits including lowering bad cholesterol, soothing stomach ache, improving brain function, fighting urinary tract infections and promoting healthy glucose metabolism. Order our BodyChef Protein Pancakes which are cooked with a sprinkle of cinnamon for added health benefits.
