Welcome to the World of Plants
Hey There BodyChefers!
As some of you may have seen, we've a new exciting addition to this weeks menu - Our NutBurger Superfood Salad. We've teamed up with another local Cork company, The Nutcase Food Company, to bring you a little veggie twist on our classic salad bowls.
At this point some of you may be thinking .... What the F**K is a NutBurger? (It's just like a normal burger, just packed full of cashews and chickpeas instead of meat), Others may have keeled over in shock at reading the word veggie. Now don't worry - we still love meat just as much as ever! But with our new and improved vegetarian menu on its way we wanted to share with you guys the endless list of benefits including more plant based goodness into your diets has. So here's our little bit of knowledge on how choosing the veggie option every once in a while can spice up your diet, leave you full of energy and help you achieve your goals.
1) We've heard it before... "But where will I get my protein from!"
It's a common misconception that without meat you won't be able to consume enough protein! Protein is such an incredibly important part of your diet - but whats the real difference getting it from a plant or an animal? Well its more to do with whats not in plant protein, such as high levels of cholesterol or trans fat often found in animal protein. Stock up on plant based foods that are packed full of protein such as Quinoa, Lentils, Beans, Spirulina & Nuts!
2) Keeps the Doctor Away
Eating a diet rich in plant based foods is seriously beneficial to your health. Boosting up your veggie intake can help lower blood pressure, lower the risk of heart disease, helps prevent obesity and decreased the risk of cancer - Sounds good to us!
3) Focusing on Adding, not Subtracting!
If you want to start making more small changes towards a diet that's rich in plant based options, begin by focusing on what you can add to your meals, instead of getting bogged down on removing meat entirely! After all, balance is key. So start by up-ing the amount of veggies and beans you add to a stir fry or salad for example, and it will soon become second nature. Our Top Tip? .... If you are looking to replace meat in a meal with something, start adding legumes such as black beans, kidney beans, chickpeas to your weekly diet. They are packed full of protein, are fantastic for your digestive system and help keep you full for longer!
Now go forth and add an extra serving of broccoli to your dinner! And make sure to keep an eye out for our new veggie menu coming soon!
